Vanya, by playwright Sam Holcroft, follows Yelena, Sonya, Astrov, and Vanya, stuck under the thumb of a dying man, but struggling for love and freedom. The exquisite language of the play is like 19th century poetry and a subway conversation at the same time. Ms. Holcroft’s work has been produced by the National, Soho, and Gate Theatres of London. Eleusis brought the play to the elegant, eerie and ever curious Stan Mansion in Chicago’s Logan Square.
